When we moved to Windows 8.1 we had to change an app that we used within a Notes database that created a PDF and then attached to a new memo. We used to use Synergy Printer (very old app)on XP but as it wouldn't work with the newer OS we had to find an alternative.
We went with Swing PDF but we had issues with it initially that took awhile to resolve. It was taking a very long time to run and then it would eventually give an error. It finally turned out to be permissions. When the application runs the first time, it tries to write to the Notes folder (not the data folder) which users don't have modify or execute rights to. We didn't want to give them rights to that folder, so we copy the specific dll file to the Notes folder and modify the permissions on that one file to give the end user Read, Write, Modify and Read and Execute. When the app is run for the first time, it still takes a little bit longer, but it does eventually generate the required email with the attached pdf (and in future doesn't take long at all).
We were going to change the permissions back to It appears that after the first run of the application the permissions were automatically modified back to Read and Read and Execute.
So based this long winded explanation, is it possible that a specific dll needs elevated permissions?
